Nose Work

K9 Nose Work-- aka, fun nose work, focused nose work -- is a competitive dog sport based on scent detection training.  You can do it just for the fun of it or work to win titles. Either way, your dog will love it! If your dog loves food, toys, attention and games, this is the activity she's been waiting for! Scent work is fun and builds confidence and focus while burning lots of mental energy.

Class is limited to just 5 dogs. All dogs are welcome in this class! Each dog works scent alone with their handler.

 Introduction to Nose Work

Dogs and owners (handlers) are introduced to scent detection training using treats, toys and boxes (containers). Dogs work indoors both on and off leash. Handlers focus on reading their dog's scenting ability.

Odor & Elements

Dogs and handlers develop confidence while hunting in more challenging and increasingly distracted environments, indoors and out. The hide is no longer paired with food. The oil is the hide! Handlers and dogs continue to work each of the 4 elements- the box drill and searches of vehicles and the interior and exterior of buildings.
[Prerequisite- Introduction to Odor or having passed an Odor Recognition Test (ORT) at an NACSW sanctioned ORT]

Beyond Birch

Two additional essential oils (Anise and Clove Bud) are added to the hunting repertoire! This is a further down the k9 nose work road- to be announced class....
